The Low Jock Scar Country Estate must be one of the area’s best kept secrets. Just a few miles north of the historic market town of Kendal where the unspoilt Fawcett Forest dips into the Bannisdale Valley, rests Low Jock Scar Country Estate, a large riverside Country Estate with private woodland tucked away beside the banks of the Bannisdale Beck. The sound of the babbling beck creates an atmosphere like no other and captures perfectly the unique charm of the idyllic location. Nestled between two Grade 2 listed pack horse bridges, with the highest seated on the route of Wainwrights Horseshoe walk, Low Jock Scar Country Estate cottages, are located just off the A6 in the Lake District National Park, ideally situated to explore the UNESCO World Heritage National Park.
The beautiful secluded gardens, and cosy cottages provide a tranquil respite for tired feet and whether you explore the Lake District by foot, cycle or travel further afield by car, you will enjoy returning to this beautiful country retreat to relax and plan your next day. Surrounded by hills, woodland and fields, it’s no surprise that the Estate is a haven for creatures great and small. Some we manage to capture on film. Others are more elusive, such as deer who steal in at dusk to feast on our shrubs. Click on the “Happenings” tab to discover more.

This stunning rural retreat changes with the seasons and each season brings its own special charm. In spring, rows of daffodils along the riverbank sway beneath the changing skies and the morning sunbeams shine through the bridge. In summer, the lush green lawns are surrounded by mature trees, shrubs and flowers of every colour, in every direction. Autumn turns the leaves to golds and reds and the lowering sun sends its rays through the wood and autumn mists drape the surrounding hills. In winter the bare trees reveal the surrounding countryside as the hills come into view and on crisp cold days reveal their frosty, snowy peaks.
Whatever the weather, the cottages at Low Jock Scar Country Estate, are cosy, warm and comfortable. Cuddle up in front of the log burner on chilly nights or chill out in one of the outside seating areas on summer evenings. On clear nights, sit out and look up at the carpet of stars in the dark sky and listen to the Beck as it courses through the Estate and tumbles through the bridge and down to Kendal. The decking area perched on the bank of the Beck provides a unique dining experience with seating and dining furniture and a bar-b-que area. You can either book or contact us directly.
